the right to be our Poet Laureate and/or to abolish the position
altogether! Here's a list of the bills.

SCR76 Expresses vote of no
confidence in Amiri Baraka as State Poet Laureate.
SR104 Calls for the
resignation of Amiri Baraka, Poet Laureate of the State
of New Jersey, forpropagating anti-Semitic hatred.
Currently,
the poet laureate is appointed by a panel of five members. Four
of these members are appointed by the New Jersey Council for
the Humanities in consultation with the New Jersey State
Council on the Arts, and the fifth member is the previous poet
laureate. This bill changes the process for appointing a poet
laureate, so that the poet laureate is appointed by and serves
at the pleasure of the Governor. The bill applies to the poet
laureate currently holding the designation, and all poet
laureates to be designated thereafter. (Statement from bill A2877)
