She opened a path through the Underground Railroad

Many kept their eye on the path hoping for Harriet to see

Harriet Tubman

Salute to a Strong, Black Woman

By Beverly R. Henry

Ol Harriet Tubman was a tough ol' bird

She did more than any person I ever heard

She took to the swamp like it was a familiar stretch

She carried them through, in a timely manner, I bet

Dressed like a man to fool the opposing side

She was a spy for the Union Army and did it with pride

She opened a path through the Underground Railroad

and kept the lines of communication free

Many kept their eye on the path hoping for Harriet to see

She played no games when it came to liberty

And dared anyone to jeopardize the rights of others trying to flee

Harriet had migraines and she would visualize

Just how to get the people through to the other side

Many called her "Black Moses"

A similar task at hand

She knew how to travel and track over the land
