Songs of the Hearth

By Rose Ure Mezu

A Birthday Prayer

My Christ, My Love, My All!

Who poured out His blood

On the wood of the Cross for me,

Grant me a birthday wish this early dawn.

Grant me the wisdom to know how to love

And live my life, and shepherd my family.

May Your spirit teach me to be patient,

That I may listen more and more.

II

Teach me to be ever so gentle

That I may curb the hasty fit of temper

That so easily takes possession.

Instruct me how to chide gently

And not, upbraid and harangue.

Keep the family united in Your Love

To be together through thick and thin.

Finally, my Lord and my All,

Protect all in health of mind and soul.

Grant an increase of Knowledge

That we all may make something of ourselves.

And see me through this pregnancy

In Your name and Love. Amen.
