Time Hijacked Blues
By Rudolph Lewis
I ain’t got
that long to stay on this
idea of my ship
drifting in rough seas
above the clouds
darken with thunder
The hard news
came down centuries
ago when my papa
jumped overboard
the Good Ship
Jesus, it was his choice
The world
can’t stand my singing
on horrors &
demons sticking needles
in my lungs,
chanting my magic spell
Brothers &
sisters keep losing
their balls,
keep throwing hope
outdoors in
blue-black shadows
with the bath
water. Right or wrong
so what if my
drop down mama,
just a spoonful,
stabbing for tears
I’d rather
close my eyes in
a hollow log than
to be satisfied
with her
snorting that blow
I’ll stretched
out in spaces like
my grandfathers
in their graves
The blues is my
genetic heritage
My mama knew
it’s a funky
deal falling
down on your knees
hell keeps on
kicking, harder
I live inside
this me that hates
me, you better
leave that wine
alone, Sonny
Boy, it’ll kill you
Now Shine spoke
his mind when
she dropped her
pink panties—swimming
not fucking keeps
a soldier alive
My baby can
shake her butt, lie
forever, but one
morning I’ll
be New Orleans bound
