What It Means to Be Alone

By Rudolph Lewis

The heart tumbles

down willows of misunderstanding

a leafless oak on a hill

rain and breezes bellow

the stars and stripes

a cause for the heart to bleed

I am sad as a moaning guitar

when a grain of loving goes a long way

I am up against a mountain

a cold & grim November afternoon

Jimi Hendrix is a Voodoo Child

& a space-aged blues man

Come back, Jimi, come back

rocking sweet dreamer

with broken glass in your head

we need your fire

and more . . .

long distance runners

highland wild men in the red dust

every morning to the task

of retrieving like Gen. Moyse

that eye lost in battle

smashing mirrors

of liberation & prosperity

to see the world as is

6 November 2003
